Santa Clara Cub Scouts Give Back to the Community
Scouts Collect 991 lbs of Food for Second Harvest Food Bank
Santa Clara, CA, November 22, 2010 – With the Holiday Season fast approaching and record numbers of
families in need of assistance across Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties; Santa Clara’s Cub Scout Pack 32
answered the call by collecting 991 lbs of food through door to door activity and a collection barrel at Lucky’s
supermarket on Pruneridge and San Thomas.
Pack 32's collection efforts were part of a combined effort of all Boy Scout units throughout Santa Clara
County, as part of the Scouting for Food program. Last year Boy Scout units in Santa Clara County collected
over 100,000 lbs of food for local families in need, and hope to exceed that number this year.

“Scouting for Food is an annual service project of the Boy Scouts of America, and is one of the best activities
to teach our youth about serving others in our community”, stated Rob Morse, Pack 32 Cubmaster. “There are
hundreds of families within our communities that depend on local food pantries. Through this community
service activity our Cub Scouts experienced how their work positively impacts people in our community”.
Cub Scouts distributed door hangers in the community on November 13 and 14, and collected food donated by
neighbors and Lucky’s supermarket customers on November 20. Following the collection of food, Scouts
brought the food to the Second Harvest Food Bank distribution center in San Jose. They were given a tour of
the center, and discovered where the collected food goes and how it services families in the community.
Scouting for Food is one of the many community and educational activities the Cub Scouts in Pack32
participate in. Additional activities include National River Clean Up Day, Veteran’s Day Parade, Memorial Day
Activities, Family Camp, and an annual Pinewood Derby.
