Pack 32 Celebrates it's 60th Birthday

On February 28th 2011, Cub Scout Pack 32 of Santa Clara held its annual Blue and Gold Banquet and celebrated the Pack's 60th Birthday.  It was a celebration that nobody expected.

Like many older Packs, time, constant changes in guardianship, changes in computer storage, and poor judgement, led to poor historical record keeping.  When I took over as Cubmaster in January of 2010 little of the Pack's history prior to 2007 was know  to anyone still involved.  That summer I began working on the current Pack website and pulling as many archives off an old defunct site as possible.  During this process I found the old site refernce an age that would have put our Pack at 50 years old in 2011.  This seemed like the perfect theme for our Blue & Gold, but our charter from the council indicated our years of service at 48.  Research was needed to be certain.

One of our intrepid Den Leaders ventured down to the office to dig through the archives, and that was when we found the Pack was older than everyone had thought.  It turns out that the Pack was originally chartered in Sunnyvale, a different council back in 1951.  It wasn't until 1963 that the Pack had moved south and became a part of the current Santa Clara County Council.  This explained the reason the council listed the Pack at 48 years.  With archives in hand and the blessing of Michael Wilson plans got under way for the Pack to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
